Up until this morning, I have been using NuevaSync to act as a conduit between my iPhone and Google accounts. Unfortunately they hit a hiccup this morning, ceasing all sync’ing. In an effort to remedy the situation, I turned off sync’ing for contacts (which deletes all contacts), then turned it back on, only to later discover things were completely broken and leaving me without a contact list. Until the service is back up, I found a quick solution to restore the missing information.
Because iTunes naively supports Google Contacts syncing, simply follow these steps:
- Turn off syncing on your iPhone (Settings→Mail, Contacts, Calendars→NuevaSync→Contacts→OFF)
- Connect iPhone to computer
- Open iTunes
- Select your iPhone from the Devices list
- Click the Info tab
- Set Contacts syncing to Google Contacts
- Apply (bottom right)
- Sync (bottom right)

I synchronized my contacts from Gmail to iPhone. Now I have 1000s of them in the contacts list. What can I do to clean up the address book in iPhone

There should be something in iStore to solve the problem. Try “contacts cleaner” for example
